Jordan Popky is an indie-alternative singer-songwriter from the Philadelphia area, currently based in Brooklyn, NY, recognizable by her bell tone voice and vivid lyric imagery. After years of immersing herself in music, she pursued the opportunity to attend Berklee College of Music in Boston. Upon receiving a Bachelor of Music degree in Songwriting in 2016, along with a Songwriting Achievement Award from the college, she became the first graduating student to minor in Musical Theater Writing.

Though she is a classically trained mezzo-soprano with experience in theater, Jordan’s musical roots are solidly folk. Her passion for songwriting and performance were nurtured by the Philadelphia folk music community, and Philly-local musicians will know her from heartfelt duets with her father, Jay Popky, as they started performing together at venues across the area back in 2009. They played at the Philadelphia Folk Festival in 2014 and 2018 with Sonoma Sound and The Cornerstones.

After moving to NYC, Jordan started backing up fellow independent artists at local music venues. In 2019, she met with producer Adam Tilzer, who has sound engineered for artists such as Valerie June, Norah Jones, and Fountains of Wayne, and produces a number of independent artists, such as Giselle, Kiirstin Marilyn, & Paola Bennet. This meeting prompted Jordan to crowd-fund for her debut EP, which Tilzer would produce. The Indiegogo campaign that she launched exceeded its goal in just a few short weeks.

The EP, Closer to Mine, is Jordan’s debut project as a solo artist. The lead single, The Nest, captures the sense of denial and desperate nostalgia that comes with watching a family member begin to lose a battle with terminal illness, and it does so with clear, gentle vocals and a suspended-in-time atmosphere. Written 2017-2019 and recorded in quarantine, Closer to Mine centers on themes of longing and human connection. She takes the listener on a sonic journey and sets a precedent for her fans to expect the unexpected in what comes next.

Four months after her debut EP, Jordan kickstarted a series of summer single releases. Each of the four songs, released every four weeks June-September, was co-written with and produced by Adam Tilzer. Simultaneously, she lent her voice and ideas to Tilzer’s Leonard Cohen tribute album, Cult Classics Vol. 1: I Don’t Even Think of You That Often, covering Cohen’s heartbreaking “Famous Blue Raincoat” with the support of Lexie Lowell and Ward Williams. Between the singles and this compilation album, Jordan was able to collaborate heavily with a number of Tilzer’s community of independent artists.

“Ego To Feed,” her first single release of 2022, is one such collaboration: a co-write with alt-pop artist Ellajay. This kicked off Jordan’s 2022 release schedule, followed by “Untitled Drug Song,” recorded and released by popular demand after the live debut of the indie folk song. Her first co-release with Kiirstin Marilyn, “Good Grief” came out in the fall of 2022, which is sure to be the first of many collaborations between the two artists and examines the relationship between grief and capitalism.

2023 is gearing up to Jordan’s biggest year yet. Co-written with fellow indie artists Sarah Mickey & Adam Tilzer, also produced by Adam Tilzer, Jordan Popky's newest single "Hair Care" delivers a fun, tongue-in-cheek response to unsolicited advice wrapped in catchy choruses. So what’s next? After two years of steady releases, Jordan will unveil her debut album this summer, with the lead single, “Delicate” dropping on June 9th.
